Fully motorized rotary microtome

Leica RM2265 fully motorized rotary microtome, fixed jaw clamp, tungsten carbide knife

Overview

The Leica RM2265 is Leica’s top-of- the-line fully motorized and programmable rotary microtome designed primarily to satisfy the requirements of biomedical researchers sectioning hard to semi-soft materials and customers needing to section industrial materials for quality assurance and materials defects analysis. The RM2265 is also the instrument of choice for sectioning at ultra-low temperatures ( -150 °C) in combination with the Leica LN22 liquid nitrogen freezing attachment.

Key Features

  • 6 different sectioning modes
  • Automatic, variable specimen retraction, depending on the actual sectioning speed
  • Section thickness setting from 0.25 µm to 100 µm
  • Section thickness totalizer and section counter
  • Programmable sectioning window
  • Speed control through the sectioning window for enhanced efficiency
  • Intuitive control panel and user interface
  • Trimming section thickness setting range up to 600 µm
  • Precision specimen orientation with zero point reference
  • Vertical specimen stroke length of 70 mm
  • Novel safety handwheel
  • Enclosed micrometer mechanism

With the Leica RM2265, a total of six sectioning modes are available. In motorized operation there are four operating mode selections: continuous, single or step stroke, and program mode. In manual operation it is possible to use the conventional method of completing a full handwheel rotation or the so-called “rock” mode.

The handwheel is moved back and forth over a small distance. Each change in direction is electronically detected and automatically converted into an advance or retraction movement of the specimen. The all-new precise specimen orientation with zero reference point and position indicators sets a new standard in microtomy. The section thickness is selectable between 0.25 µm and 100 µm.

For the Leica RM2265 a wide range of accessories is available. Among others, there is a microscope carrier with two fiber optic light guides for the optimal illumination of the working area, suitable also for very special applications.
