What causes sections to smear or bunch-up on the knife edge?

- The specimen is too warm. Select a lower temperature (lower the temperature by 5 °C) wait for a few minutes for the temperature to stabilize and try sectioning.
- Either the blade or anti-roll plate is too warm. Allow the blade and anti-roll plate to stabilize at the selected temperature (the anti-roll plate should be in position touching the pressure plate).
